The Housing Demolition 2026 Project will see Gumatj Construction deliver the demolition and rehabilitation of up to 12 residential properties in Nhulunbuy.

Gumatj Construction has been awarded a $2.25 million contract by Rio Tinto to deliver the Housing Demolition 2026 Project in Nhulunbuy, further strengthening the company's pipeline of major construction and infrastructure works across North East Arnhem Land.

The project commenced on 30 September 2026 and is expected to be delivered over approximately 131 days, followed by a 12-month defects liability period.

The contract will see Gumatj Construction undertake the demolition and deconstruction of up to 12 residential properties, including the removal of existing slabs, footings and associated infrastructure, before completing grading, levelling and rehabilitation works across each site.

The scope also includes licensed asbestos identification, removal and disposal, together with the management of other hazardous materials and environmental remediation requirements.

Waste generated through the demolition works will be carefully managed, with materials segregated for recycling and responsible disposal wherever appropriate. Environmental testing, clearance certification and completion reporting will also form an important part of the project delivery process.
